As it turns out...

the worst was not over (after sinus surgery). This week has been the worst I have ever felt. Today is the first day I have really gotten up out of the recliner. In addition to feeling deathly ill it turns out I am allergic to the antibiotic I was on. So my face swelled up, turned red, and my right eye was nearly impossible to open. The rash then spread all over my torso. So in addition to a sinus infection and feeling nauseas I itch all over. If it wasn't for my wonderful husband waiting on me I would not have eaten this week.

First Interracial Kiss

So in the previews for the new Star Trek I noticed Kirk & Uhura were hot and heavy. I asked my father in law about this (he is quite the Star Trek Junkie-seriously he has his own little Christmas tree to hang his Trek ornaments).
I wondered if they were an item in the original series. He told me that the first interracial kiss was between Kirk & Uhura. Who knew-probably a lot of people? Apparently it was only allowed on t.v. because they were under a spell. Evil aliens forced them to kiss to see what would happen. Here's a photo. You can also find it on youtube (of course).

Solicited advice

We often get advice on our adoption process. Usually from people who have never adopted and would never consider adopting.

Now I am soliciting advice-if you have thoughts, good or bad, share 'em. Brutal honesty can be good (ok not too brutal I'm a little emotional these days). Given my last post on possible corruption we are getting a little nervous (or completely freaking out depending on how you look at it). Should we be worried about ET closing? Is that a possibility at this point? I don't know-I wish I did. If it does what do we do? We are considering increasing our age range and/or viewing the WIC list.

If it makes any difference we should be 6-9 months away from getting our referral. We have contacted CHSFS to get their thoughts. What are yours?

The Reluctant Post

I've been debating about posting this. But what is going on in ET? I'm not sure if anyone knows for sure at the moment. If by chance you have not heard: Abandonment cases from Addis are not being allowed to pass court.

Apparently an agency has falsified paperwork. Several adoptive parents have posted on forums that there agency is responsible for this (only one agency has been named-at least for now). This is not to say that all cases have been corrupted but even one is too many.

I don't think the adoptive parents are at fault. I can't imagine what they are going through.

What do you think?

Today

Today marks our 8th month waiting for our little one. Yesterday marked one year since we started with CHSFS on our journey to our ET peanut.

Today, my wonderful husband, got me my first Mother's Day card and flowers. I hope next year to wake up to a screaming baby or a little one pouncing on me in bed.

Today I wish all the mommy's out there a Happy Mother's Day.
Today I think about the woman who will give us everything we have always wanted.

Adopting is like planning your wedding

In the very beginning you are thrilled. The thought of the planning is so exciting. You research and think ahead to the big day. It feels like it will be here before you know it.

Then months into it you begin to drag a little. You are exhausted thinking about the details and what could go wrong. Everyone asks, "how's it going"? The reply gets less enthusiastic. You feel like you have so much to do but need a break from thinking about it. It's not that you aren't still excited its just that you need it to hurry up and happen.

By the time the big day is close all you can think about is getting it over with. You have been on a roller coaster for a year and would like to get off and go to the honeymoon or finally hold your baby.

The big difference: For me, after we were married it didn't feel much different. I doubt that will be the case when the baby is here-I expect everything to change for the better.

So here is my optimistic side: we (once again) should be less then 9 months from getting our referral. Of course wait times may increase again but I have to keep hoping for the best.

Recovering

The last few days have been rough. Tuesday was surgery. Wednesday the packing came out (don't ask)!!!

Yesterday Joel had to take me to the ER for a CT scan and blood tests, because I have been having horrible headaches. 5 hours later they tell me everything is ok. The infection has not gotten worse. They gave me a stronger pain medicine and at 4:45a.m. I fell asleep. Today I am pooped. But I am certain the worst of it is over.

And not that it is much but we moved up 3 more spots and are now sitting at #59. I will take what I can get.
