Excuse me while I ramble on...

I  have two nieces and 4 nephews. Today my oldest niece (5) started school.  Last week my oldest nephew (17) started his senior year in high school.  Holy crap!  Wow I feel old and way behind.

My best friend, Betsy, just found out she and her family are leaving for California for several months.  Her husband, Drue, is a geologist and has lots of work to do out there.  It will be great for them.  I am a little sad about it but will manage as long as she is back in time for my baby shower (I mean seriously we've been waiting years for this).

Families waiting for a healthy infant (with CHSFS) are waiting about 16 months right now for a referral.  That means we have 4 months to go (ish).  That's doable, right?  I'll let you in on a little secret.  I'm kinda glad its taking longer then expected (at least for a minute).  How would I have had 2 surgeries in 4 months with an infant?

Somewhere between Selfish Jerk & Doubt

I just read The Stages of Waiting article in Adoptive Families magazine.

I can't tell you how much better it makes me feel to see/read/hear that other people feel the same way I do. I follow Julie Corby's blog and loved her article.

Surgery

I was all freaked out yesterday. Seriously ready to cry all day long and it didn't hit me until about 9p.m. why I was so upset.  Surgery was scheduled for Oct. 6 Joel was scheduled to leave Oct 8 for New Orleans.  This is his first ever out of state training.  What are the odds?  It was more then I could take.

Who would put my socks on me when I can't bend over after surgery or fetch me my vietnamese soup that has healing properties ( i swear it does)? Who would wake up ever few hours and make sure I got my medicine?

I had so many complications last time.  Needed an emergency CT scan to make sure my brain wasn't injured, got a sinus infection while healing (worst ever), and then had an allergic reaction to my meds and looked like a tomato.

I decided to move the surgery to Oct. 13th and I feel much better about it.

The sinus drama continues...

with another surgery. My surgery is scheduled for October 6. Joel leaves two days later for his first ever out of state conference... in New Orleans. This just pushed me over the edge today.

I feel ok today. The doctor just thinks I should be doing better. It's only been a few months since the surgery and I've had to get antibiotics several times already. I hope this saga ends soon.

Drum roll please.....

For the worlds largest garage sale we made ( are you sitting down, have you went to the bathroom-you may pee your pants otherwise)...........$1,703.07! Seriously!

I can not thank my father in law (Ray), Paige, Astrid, Elliott, our adorable neighbor girls, Ward & Nancy, and the Hyde clan enough for all their help.

For everyone who showed up, bought stuff, donated items, helped set up or tear down, thought off us, prayed for us... I say Amesegenallo!

We will have a second garage sale at Paige's home on Sept 12.

SERIOUSLY $1,703.07 who would have thought? I hoped for a $1,000 thought we would probably make $600-$700. This will buy us a plane ticket!!!

Moving forward

after whining ( know I do that a lot lately) about the wait a forum friend said,

We're moving toward it (referral) at a faster pace than it's moving away; we're bound to over take it eventually.

Thanks Julie. Here's to overtaking the wait (eventually).

World's largest garage sale: this weekend

Seriously I don't even think it can be called a garage sale. I think it is more of a flea market. Never in a million years would I have thought we would have this much stuff to sell.

We have tons of baby and children's stuff: clothes, crib, toys, more clothes, baby bedding,
lots of electronics, phones, computers, furniture, household items, sporting goods, purses, shoes, dishes, china, etc...

If you need stuff or no anyone who does (and will be in the Columbus area this weekend) come over.

We are using all of the money to help with our plane tickets (if we ever get that damn call)!

Bitter party of 2

some days are harder then others. today is one of those days. OY!

It's not that waiting 12-15 months is awful, its not really. It's that you are told 9 months and then it turns to 12 then to 14 and maybe even 15 or 16 that just completely sucks!!!

Are we ever getting a referral let alone a baby?

Our approaching one year waitiversary is getting to me. Have you noticed? I think it's even getting to Joel.

11 months and counting

I can't believe it has been 11 months. Do I cry or celebrate when we hit the 1 year mark???

Garage Sale Update

We have been planning a garage sale since...I don't know...forever. We finally set a date for August 22 & 23. We will have to have it at our house. We were hoping to have it at a spot on Hamilton but the city of Whitehall has soooo many regulations for garage sales. They wanted us to have $1million insurance policy, $300 deposit, and a few other things.

SO rain or shine it will be at our house. We have TONS of stuff clothes, cribs, furniture, electronics.... We are only allowed to put up 1 sign so let people know. All the money will go to help pay for our travels to (and around) Ethiopia.

We may have a lemonade stand to benefit EOR, but I have to check with the city and see if we need a food permit. Seriously! Whitehall does not make it easy to have a garage sale.
