Haiti: Children being airlifted to Florida?

In a move mirroring Operation Pedro Pan in the 1960s, Catholic Charities and other South Florida immigrant rights organizations are planning an ambitious effort to airlift possibly thousands of Haitian children left orphaned in the aftermath of Tuesday's horrific earthquake

just read your post below about the movement on your list. good news. I have been thinking nonstop about all the families in process of adopting from Haiti. I haven't read that link yet but I will. Sounds like an ambitious undertaking.

wow do I have mixed feelings about this. I think short term it is wonderful, but long term it sounds like there is no plan to even try to reunify these children with their families- they will not all be true orphans- many will have family that survived. I think we would be open to fostering a child- but I am not sure I could adopt them under these circumstances until there is certainty that is not family to care for them. We worry about the ethics of adoption and wow is this a test of them.

And on a practical note- are they just going to create a huge orphanage in Miami- thousands of kids entering a system that already has more kids than it has families for.
